So this past weekend a bunch of my friends from my program went to Mendoza, Argentina for a wine festival. We left Thursday and got there around 9:30pm. We went straight to the hostel and got ready to go out. Being in a big group is extremely annoying when trying to make plans, everyone gets ready differently and noone can ever agree on things. Thursday night we attempted to go dancing, but unfortunately we did not make it to a club. Well actually half did and the other half did not want to pay to get in (meaning the boys, because girls never have to pay).
So my friends and I were walking back to the hostel when we find this incredible hotdog restaurant! This is not just any hotdog...there are about 20 different toppings to choose from and afterwards the top it off with thin crispy fries. Yummmmm Brett and I split a hotdog with 4 queso y salsa and fries. So the night did not end in a bust.
The next day our group split off to different activities. Fiona, Mia, Jocelyn, Eben, Joey, and I walked around the city. Mendoza has this huge park that is bigger than Central Park in New York City. This place is gorgeous...check out my pictures. We had a mini photo-shoot. You know how I love photo-shoots. We were getting extremely hungry so we went to find lunch. We got ourselves some delicious pizza. I bought an individual pizza so it will last me for the entire weekend. We got to the hostel and completely passed out, best nap ever except for the fact that I woke up in sweat. This continent does not believe in air conditioning. We woke up and I immediately took a shower...everyone began to get back from their adventures. There was an asado at the hostel but I opted out because I had leftover pizza. Afterwards we went to the main plaza where there were tons of vendors and a concert going on. I bought some chachkis, then there was a parade. Later that night we all got ready and headed out to find a discoteca. We found this fun discoteca where it was packed with people. We were all dancing and having a great time. I do not know what time we came back, but I am pretty sure it was late.
Saturday: Fiona, Mia, Jocelyn, and I went to a vineyard to have a tour and do some wine tasting. The place was really gorgeous and the wine was delicioso! The girls were hungry so we had lunch at the vineyard. We took a bus back and started to get ready to go to the Mendoza Beauty Pageant!
Now there is so much that I could say about the beauty pageant but unfortunately yall will still not really quite understand what happened. First of all we waited in line for about three hours, cramped like sardines. There were so many old people as well, old latinos are extremely feisty! Do not mess with them! They were pushing and screaming trying to get in. We finally got in and they were giving out goody bags. In the goody bags were an apple and wine in a juice box. Once we saw that they were giving out wine, we proceeded to take about 10 bags. Now this was going to be a lot of fun. We sat down and began to drink our juice box. I do not know how many of you guys know Argentine spanish, but they have a lisp and pronounce things with a 'ja' so everytime an argentinean said a word with 'ja' we had to take a sip. It made the night extremely fun. After a little while we left the beauty pageant and hitched a ride on a bus to take us back to our hostel. Once we got there, of course everyone was getting ready to go out. We do love to party and dance, we went to an area about 20min away where there is street of only dance clubs. We went to one of them and danced the night away. I was super sweaty, but enjoying every minute. I am pretty sure I didnot go to bed until 6am. The next day everyone was extremely exhausted luckily all we did was take a bus back. I passed out for about 60% of the ride. Then came home and passed out.
Check out the pictures to see my adventure!
